Debbie and Robin Wood, along with their extended family, were the first residents of Beaufort Park, an exclusive development from Edenstone Homes.
“We’re thrilled with the house. We wanted to buy a bigger house and share with our son and his family but had to wait a while because of Covid,” Debbie said.
“As a result of us doing this a few friends have expressed an interest in doing the same.”
Debbie’s husband Robin, 72, had longed to live in Lisvane and they considered older properties and new builds before setting their sights on a new build home.
“We looked at established houses in the area but thought about the work they would need, which we didn’t want. Buying a new build home was so much easier. Plus, our son is a gas heating engineer and said our bills would be lower than in an older property because new homes are so well insulated,” Debbie, 67, explained.
“We considered other new build houses, but the quality wasn’t the same as the Edenstone homes, plus this is a small development in the heart of Lisvane.”
A friend had collected a brochure for the original Beaufort Gardens development for them, but due to their circumstances they missed out on moving there. When Edenstone launched the neighbouring Beaufort Park development they quickly made a reservation to secure their new home.
“It all seemed to come to together at the right time. It was as if it was meant to be,” Debbie added.
Their new home is a generously proportioned five-bedroom detached Wentworth style property, spanning 3,707sqft of carefully considered living space arranged over three floors.

“We tend to live at the back of the house during the day and then when our son comes home we settle in the snug and watch TV in there,” Debbie explained.
“We also have the luxury of the lounge with a log burner for when we all get together. We’re planning on putting a big corner sofa in the top floor cinema room.”
Having an en-suite to each bedroom was a major advantage for the extended family living together.
“Everyone was really blown away. We let them each choose the tiles in their en-suite so that they felt they had put their own stamp on it. Having her own en-suite was a dream for our granddaughter who’s 15. She has the second bedroom, so she has a bath and a shower in hers. It was lovely to be able to give her that,” Debbie said.
“There’s so much room – everyone has their own space. Our granddaughter has space to work in preparation for her GCSEs and our grandson has space to go on his computer with his friends. Our eldest grandson is in university and having all this space allows us the opportunity to encourage him to bring friends to stay whenever he wants to. It’s nice to think of it being a family home we can all enjoy.”
Debbie is looking forward to being able to spend time in her new garden as the warmer months approach.
“The garden is a huge space and coming into spring we’ll have turf laid and then decide where to put everything else,” she added.
“We still have lots of decisions to make, which is part of the fun of buying a new home and making it your own. We’re taking our time doing it because we don’t want to make mistakes.”
